Job summary

Balt Group, a leading medical devices company, seeks an experienced Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property (IP) to oversee the global IP function. The role reports to the Chief Legal Officer and focuses on patents, trademarks, and trade secrets, including disputes, transactions, and due diligence.

You will partner with R&D, engineering, and operations to advise executives on complex IP issues.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Registered Patent Attorney; active bar membership (CA and/or MA preferred).
• BS/MS/PhD in engineering or a technical field relevant to medical devices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead global IP strategy in line with business and R&D goals.
• Manage global patent and trademark portfolio with outside counsel.
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate assessments.
• Protect trade secrets and oversee related programs.
• Negotiate IP-related agreements including licenses and joint development.
• Support due diligence for corporate development activities.
• Monitor industry trends and provide actionable IP guidance to leadership.
• Provide IP training to employees.
