Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Aerospace Engineer to lead aircraft subsystem projects from concept through sustainment. You will develop hydraulic and electrical schematics, perform power and hydraulic analyses, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure airworthiness.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline with 8+ years’ related experience, or Master/PhD with fewer years.
  • Experience leading system development from concept to sustainment (cradle-to-grave).
  • Strong project management and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present technical briefings to senior executives.
  • U.S. Government Secret clearance and SAP clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or contribute to aircraft subsystem development across hydraulic and electrical domains.

  • Perform power generation, distribution, and circuit protection analyses.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and act as technical POC for suppliers.

Job description

Lead and/or serve as key contributor on multiple aspects of aircraft subsystem development
Support projects from inception, including RFP, requirements analysis, and BOE, through hydraulic/electrical subsystem layout, mechanical requirements, and final integration
Serve as the engineering team’s subject matter expert from concept to sustainment
Create hydraulic and electrical schematics for functional systems
Select aircraft-type conductors and electromechanical components, including connectors, relays, switches, circuit breakers, and terminal junction systems
Perform electrical power generation, conversion, distribution, and circuit protection analysis
Develop Electrical Loads Analysis, power architecture, test procedures, and related deliverables
Conduct hydraulic system analysis and prepare test procedures, reports, and related deliverables
Lead trade studies, layout development, architecture definition, system testing, verification, and troubleshooting
Participate in subcontractor management teams and serve as technical point of contact for suppliers during hardware development, qualification, and procurement
Develop and execute system-level test plans
Support verification activities, process test data, and resolve issues
Perform system-level evaluations to confirm requirements and airworthiness criteria are satisfied
Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams of 10+ members
Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership at director level and above

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 8 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline with 6 years of related experience; OR a PhD in a relevant STEM discipline and 4 years of related experience
  • Proven experience leading a system’s development from concept to sustainment (“cradle-to-grave”)
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities
  • Experience acting as a SME for an engineering team/project
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with a track record of complex problem solving
  • Proven ability to create and present technical briefings to senior executives
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for positions with a government clearance
  • Preferred: Active U.S. Government Secret (or higher) clearance with a background investigation completed within the past six years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation
  • Preferred: Experience with military-aircraft subsystem development, including requirements definition, specification authoring, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration, and test & verification
  • Preferred: Proficiency interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures
  • Travel: 10% of the time
