Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer in Colorado to lead aerospace programs from concept to production. You will decompose and manage airframe, subsystem, and component requirements across mechanical and electrical teams, interface with customers, and define system interfaces using SysML.

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related engineering field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7–10 years’ related industry experience and/or training
  • Comprehensive experience leading requirements-based systems engineering programs
  • Experience decomposing customer/marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Experience with aviation analysis, design, and development preferred
  • Experience with phase-gate product design processes
  • Demonstrated success with clean-sheet product-to-production programs and verification
  • Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis and FMEA and DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, IEEE 15288 standards
  • INCOSE Certified or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP or ESEP)
  • Proficiency with CAD and SysML tools
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to define, manage, and technically lead commercial or military aircraft projects
  • Capture, document, decompose, and manage airframe, subsystem, and component-level requirements across mechanical and electrical engineering teams
  • Interface with customers during project initiation to architect subsystems and components
  • Define and manage system and subsystem interface control documents and requirements in SysML
  • Facilitate System Requirements Reviews and maintain complete, accurate project specifications
  • Develop technical quotes supporting Engineering Support Requests and project requirements
  • Review compliance methodologies and verification plans
  • Lead risk assessment, requirement prioritization, and project risk management
  • Support project budget and schedule adherence and assess change requests
  • Identify specialized staffing and technical requirements and coordinate engineering, certification, and ODA resources
  • Verify engineering methods of compliance and oversee testing activities
  • Coordinate with ODA, Manufacturing, Certification, suppliers, test houses, end users, management, and customers to close STC projects
  • Serve as a technical leader without direct supervisory responsibilities

Job description

  • Identify specialized staffing and technical requirements and coordinate engineering, certification, and ODA resources
  • Verify engineering methods of compliance and oversee and document testing activities and outcomes
  • Coordinate with ODA, Manufacturing, Certification, suppliers, test houses, end users, management, and customers to close STC projects
  • Serve as a technical leader without direct supervisory responsibilities
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related engineering field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7–10 years’ related industry experience and/or training
  • Comprehensive experience working in a high aptitude engineering environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful programs using requirements-based systems engineering tools and best practices
  • Experience decomposing customer/marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Experience with aviation analysis, design, and development preferred
  • Extensive experience with phase-gate product design processes
  • Demonstrated success with clean-sheet product-to-production programs, including validation and verification for regulated industries
  • Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, and standards including MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, IEC-60812, and AS13004
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis (MTBF), planning, and testing
  • Experience with applicable aviation, systems engineering, quality, safety, and risk-management standards, including DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, IEEE 15288, SAE ARP 4754, and others listed in the posting
  • Required INCOSE Certified or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP or ESEP)
  • Professional Engineer and/or master’s degree preferred
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of budgeting and operations
  • Ability to multitask across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Experience with CAD software; SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficient with SysML software, such as Eclipse with Papyrus SysML or Siemens Polarion
  • Regular attendance and dependability
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Ability to travel more than 5% of the time
