Job description

  • Define, manage, and provide technical leadership to commercial or military projects within the Engineering Department
  • Lead airframe, subsystem, and component-level requirement capture, memorialization, and management across mechanical and electrical engineering teams
  • Interface with customers during project/program initiation to architect subsystems and components
  • Define, memorialize, and manage system and subsystem interface control documents and requirements in SysML
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering to facilitate System Requirements Reviews and ensure alignment between customer aircraft/systems and internal subsystems
  • Ensure complete and accurate project specifications throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develop technical quotes supporting Engineering Support Requests and project requirements
  • Lead requirement decomposition, including 14 CFR and external customer requirements, to component and functional levels for electrical and mechanical subsystems
  • Review compliance methodologies and verification plans to ensure proper artifact generation
  • Review risk assessments and requirement prioritization; lead project risk management, including SHA, SSA, FMEA, and FMECA as needed
  • Support Project Engineering in maintaining projects within budget and schedule milestones through compliance with documented requirements and management of change requests
  • Provide quotes to Project Manager and Marketing as requested by Engineering leadership
  • Identify specialized staffing and technical requirements; coordinate with engineering, certification, and ODA leaders to determine project man-loading and technical requirements
  • Request allocation of technical resources from the Engineering Manager
  • Verify engineering methods of compliance, including substantiations, analyses, and test designs
  • Oversee and document testing activities and outcomes
  • Assist with ODA and Manufacturing testing as required
  • Interface with suppliers, test houses, end users, management, and end customers
  • Develop testing statements of work
  • Coordinate Certification and ODA efforts and tasks for timely closure of STC projects
  • Serve as a technical leader through influence without direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related engineering field from a four-year college or university, and 7–10 years’ related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Comprehensive experience working in a high aptitude engineering environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful programs by creating a requirements-based culture utilizing system engineering tools and best practices
  • Experience decomposing customer/marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Analysis, design, and development experience in aviation field preferred
  • Extensive experience working within a phase gate product design process
  • Demonstrated success with new clean sheet product-to-production programs, including validation and verification for regulated industries
  • Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, and standards including MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, IEC-60812, AS13004
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis (MTBF), planning, and testing
  • Experience with listed aviation, systems engineering, safety, quality, risk, and lifecycle standards
  • Delivery of difficult programs on schedule and budget
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of business situations, strategies, theory, processes, management, budgeting, and operations
  • Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be a team player with a professional attitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high degree of collaboration at all levels
  • Experience with CAD software; SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficient with SysML software, including Eclipse with Papyrus SysML, Siemens Polarion, or other
  • Required: INCOSE Certified or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP or ESEP)
  • Professional Engineer and/or Master’s degree preferred
  • Regular attendance and role dependability
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required
  • Willingness to travel more than 5% of the time
