Job description

Hazen and Sawyer, an engineering firm focused on all things water, has an immediate opening for a senior-level Cost Estimator based in the Southeast or Midwest region . Our cost estimators touch all aspects of our work – estimating costs associated with repairs of dams and impoundment facilities, large-scale water and wastewater treatment plants, conveyance pipelines, and stormwater and green infrastructure systems. Hazen works on new construction projects and those focused on rehabilitating and repairing critical infrastructure that has been serving the public for decades.

Specifically, our senior-level Cost Estimator will provide detailed cost estimates from conceptual design through bid phase of design on water projects involving all trades including civil, structural, architectural, process mechanical, HVAC, and electrical work. This role may also involve oversight and training of junior estimators and review of cost estimates they develop.

The job duties for this position include :

• Prepare and review cost estimates for projects at various levels of design completion
• Prepare labor rates and equipment rental rates for areas throughout the United States
• Prepare quantity surveys on projects at various levels of design completion
• Procure pricing from vendors and manufacturers on proprietary equipment
• Lead coordination with design groups throughout the design of a project to gain an understanding of client needs
• Review and interpret project documents including drawings, specifications, and contract language

Requirements :

• degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field, or 5+ years of construction estimating experience on large, complex projects.
• Ability to read and understand construction documents is required
• Willingness and ability to visit job sites and facility tours
• Proficiency in Excel and Word
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Time management and organizational skills
• Prior work with on-screen take-off software required
• Ability to work with a team or independently
