Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Power Systems Protection Engineer in a hybrid role based at Wendell, NC. You will design, configure, test, and commission protection and control schemes for medium and high voltage substations to ensure grid reliability and project success.

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and have 3+ years in protection engineering, with experience in IEC standards and major relay hardware, and travel 50–75% nationwide as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience with power protection engineering for electrical substations.
• Experience with AC/DC schematics and high/medium voltage diagrams.
• Experience configuring major relay/automation hardware (Siemens Siprotec 5, GE, SEL, ABB).
• Experience with protection/communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 103/104, Profinet/Profibus).
• Willingness to travel 50%–75% nationwide.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and test protective relay systems for substations.
• Develop protection/control schemes aligned with standards and client needs.
• Create and refine Control Logic Diagrams, Signal Lists, and Functional Design specs.
• Plan and execute FAT, SAT, and testing environments for projects.
• Provide technical support across the project lifecycle from design to commissioning.
