Job summary

SMA America, the U.S. subsidiary of SMA Solar Technology AG, seeks a Senior Power Systems Modeling Engineer to perform power system modeling and grid integration analyses for utility-scale PV and storage projects in the U.S. This role involves S/S studies, inverter behavior, and cross‑regional collaboration.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with PSS/E and PSCAD/EMTDC, a solid power systems foundation, and willingness to travel internationally to SMA locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 3 years in utility-scale renewable energy with PV or storage.
• At least 3 years developing/analyzing dynamic and steady-state models of inverter-based resources.
• Willingness to travel internationally, including to SMA HQ in Kassel, Germany.

Responsibilities

• Model utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects for U.S. Application Engineering.
• Interpret interconnection requirements across ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, NYISO, PJM, SPP.
• Maintain SMA model portfolio across PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, other NA platforms.
• Support modeling studies, validate dynamic model behavior against specs.
• Analyze inverter control modes and plant-level strategies; assist validation/testing.
• Prepare modeling study reports and technical documentation for IBR projects.
• Coordinate with SMA Global Competence Center and North American teams.
• Develop internal training materials on modeling tools and SMA capabilities.
