Job summary

Powertech USA, a Boston-based subsidiary of Powertech Labs Inc., specializes in engineering services for the electric power industry, including DSATools deployments, transient stability studies, and renewable integration analyses.

The Senior Power System Modelling Engineer will validate models, tune controls for generation plants (wind, solar, storage), and perform validation studies compliant with NERC standards, with travel to sites worldwide.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems strongly preferred); Bachelor’s degree with direct & relevant experience will be considered.
• 5+ years of work experience in power system transient stability studies, protection & control; Specialist Engineer level requires at least 8 years.
• Strong knowledge of generator and renewable modeling, power system protections, and control systems of synchronous generators.
• Experience with power plant and generator protection and control theory and practice on relay instruments.
• Experience with power plant modeling and dynamic/short-circuit analysis using PSCAD, DSATools, PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, etc.

Responsibilities

• Review power plant technical documentation and prepare unit-specific test plans.
• Conduct power system simulation studies aligned with NERC and other reliability standards.
• Prepare detailed engineering reports communicating methodologies, analyses and findings.
• Perform peer reviews of technical reports to ensure quality and compliance.
• Travel to industrial and power generation sites globally to perform onsite generator model validation testing.
• Develop technical proposals including scope, cost estimates, and project schedules.
