Job summary
SMA America seeks a Senior Grid Modeling Engineer to lead power system modeling for utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects. You will drive interconnection studies, tool-portfolio management, and cross-functional collaboration with U.S. and global teams.
The role requires deep knowledge of PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, TSAT, and grid-forming inverter concepts, with strong analytical and communication skills. Remote-first work within the continental U.S. is available.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
- 5–7 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Strong experience developing dynamic and steady-state models with PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, and TSAT.
- Familiarity with HIL platforms (RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL) is a plus.
- Excellent English communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
- Serve as subject-matter expert in modeling utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid plants.
- Interpret interconnection requirements across major ISOs and set model configurations.
- Maintain SMA model portfolio across multiple simulation platforms.
- Provide technical support and validate dynamic model behavior.
- Prepare modeling study reports and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with global teams and participate in industry working groups.
