SMA America is seeking a Senior Power Systems Modeling Engineer to lead grid integration studies for utility-scale PV and storage projects in the U.S. You will model and analyze dynamic and steady-state responses, support interconnection studies, and validate inverter-based resources across multiple SMA platforms.

The role requires hands-on experience with PSS/E and PSCAD/EMTDC, strong collaboration with U.S. and global teams, and a willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in utility-scale renewable energy (PV or energy storage).
• At least 3 years developing and analyzing dynamic and steady-state models using PSS/E and PSCAD/EMTDC.
• Working knowledge of utility-scale PV and BESS plant design, including single-line diagrams and integration considerations.
• Proficiency in English with strong written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to travel internationally occasionally, including visits to SMA headquarters in Kassel, Germany.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

Responsabilités

• Model and analyze utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid plants across SMA projects.
• Interpret interconnection requirements (ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, SPP) and configure SMA models.
• Maintain versions of SMA's model portfolio across PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, and other NA tools.
• Provide technical support and run simulations to validate model behavior against design specs.
• Analyze inverter control modes and plant-level control strategies; support validation and interconnection workflows.
• Prepare modeling study reports and technical documentation communicating findings and recommendations.
• Assess inverter-based resource impacts on stability and suggest mitigation using SMA technologies.
• Coordinate with SMA Global Competence Center and US/NA teams on modeling tasks.
• Collaborate with SMA's Germany team to feedback on performance and emerging modeling needs.
• Engage in industry groups on modeling standards and North American grid-code requirements.
• Develop internal training materials on modeling tools and methodologies.
