Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL seeks a lead engineer to design, modify, and analyze electrical systems for power plants and industrial facilities. The role focuses on power distribution, control philosophy, and detailed design using ETAP/SKM, with a peer-mentoring component and client liaison duties.

The position is hybrid, requiring in-office work 3 days per week. A BSEE (ABET) and extensive power systems experience are required; a PE license is highly preferred or obtainable.

Qualifications

• BSEE degree from ABET-accredited program; power systems emphasis preferred.
• PE license highly preferred or ability to earn.
• 8+ years of experience in power plant or industrial plant design with integrated, detailed system design focus.
• Experience selecting equipment, materials, control philosophy, and preparing calculations and specifications.
• Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, transformers, generators, motors, and analytical calculations.
• Experience with ETAP and/or SKM.
• Technical knowledge of electrical power distribution equipment.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience reviewing other engineers' design calculations and drawings.
• Technical knowledge and experience with instrumentation and controls engineering.
• Project management and business development experience.
• Construction and start-up experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering efforts in a project team environment for electrical systems design, modification, and analysis.
• Prepare and review single lines, relay, metering, cable block, and schematic drawings; prepare input for 3-D modeling.
• Interface with vendors to prepare BOMs and equipment specs; advise client.
• Prepare reports and studies presenting technical information clearly for client needs.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and promote peer learning.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and site verification.
