Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL is seeking an Electrical Engineer to work on power plant and industrial electrical systems, including retrofit projects and new generation installations. You will be involved in design, modification, and analysis across projects and may travel to client and vendor sites.

The role supports a hybrid schedule with in-office work three days weekly, collaborating within a project-team and leveraging peer-learning through S&L Communities of Practice to grow

Qualifications

• A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering is required with emphasis in power systems preferred.
• Familiarity with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans and models.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• This position is based in Chicago, IL and may require occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Range of projects from existing plant retrofits to new generation installations.
• Work in a project team environment on design, modification, and analysis of power plant and industrial electrical systems.
• Involves power distribution designs and preparation of specifications for major equipment and installation services.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare functional design drawings, single line diagrams, relay/metering drawings, and schematic diagrams; assist with 3-D modeling and documentation.
• Develop calculations including system studies, voltage drop, relay settings, and arc flash calculations.
• Interface with vendors for BOMs and procurement specs; provide client recommendations.
• Opportunity for career development through Communities of Practice; potential travel for reviews and site verification.
