Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead electrical engineer in Chicago to manage and mentor a team within a project setting focused on electrical systems for plants and retrofits. You will lead detailed design work, review calculations, and coordinate with vendors and clients to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Requires a BSEE with power systems emphasis, PE license, and 15+ years of experience in power/industrial plant design, including LV/MV distribution and ETAP/SKM calculations.

Qualifications

• BSEE degree from ABET-accredited program required; emphasis in power systems preferred.
• PE license required.
• Experience managing a team of electrical engineers.
• 15+ years in power plant or industrial plant design with detailed system design for new or modified facilities.
• Experience selecting equipment, materials, control philosophy, and preparing calculations/specifications.
• Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, transformers, generators, motors, and related systems.
• Experience performing calculations in ETAP and/or SKM.
• Knowledge of electrical power distribution equipment.
• Experience liaising with clients as lead engineer.
• Experience reviewing other engineers’ calculations and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise electrical engineers within project teams.
• Oversee power distribution design and equipment procurement specifications.
• Assist project manager to ensure projects meet scope, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate design activities to meet codes and client requirements.
• Prepare and review design drawings and calculations; support 3‑D modeling.
• Interface with vendors for BOMs and purchase specs; provide client recommendations.
• Produce reports/studies in clear, client‑friendly format.
