Job summary

CrowdStrike is seeking a Principal SRE to operate where core platform and embedded reliability converge, building foundational libraries, services, and tooling used across the Falcon Platform. You will work hands‑on, re‑architect critical systems, and collaborate with product teams to drive reliability at scale.

You will influence architectural decisions, shape shared components like Unified Search and Protobuf libraries, and mentor engineers while delivering high‑impact solutions across the org.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems and service‑oriented backends at scale.
• Five+ years developing microservices for a SaaS product in a modern backend language (Go, Java, Scala, Kotlin, Python, Node.js).
• Expert‑level proficiency in at least one programming language, with expert‑level Go or willingness to reach expert level in Go.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems: consensus, replication, consistency, failure modes, and scalability patterns.
• Proven experience scaling backend systems — sharding, partitioning, horizontal scaling, capacity planning, performance optimization.
• Deep understanding of multi‑threading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
• Track record of making impactful architectural decisions across an organization.
• Strong systems thinking and ability to influence across boundaries.
• Engineering best practices: testing paradigms, peer code review, resilient architecture.
• Thrives in a fast‑paced, test‑driven, collaborative environment; strong team‑player orientation.
• Desire to ship code and see it in production.
• Degree in Computer Science or commensurate experience in data structures and distributed systems.
• Proven experience utilizing AI technologies to enhance decision‑making and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive multi‑year reliability roadmaps with engineering leadership.
• Architectural improvements to services, libraries, and platforms used by multiple teams.
• Develop and maintain services meeting reliability and scalability goals.
• Extend libraries for cross‑cutting concerns across CrowdStrike's cloud platform.
• Lead initiatives around reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency at scale.
• Establish observability practices: instrument services, react to signals, drive automation.
• Define service‑level objectives and error budgets to guide decisions.
• Lead performance and cost optimization: profiling, bottlenecks, capacity planning.
• Conduct resilience engineering: chaos experiments and failure modeling.
• Design automation and infrastructure‑as‑code to improve reliability and reduce toil.
• Provide technical leadership during incidents and drive post‑mortems improvements.
• Identify opportunities to extract patterns into shared libraries and tools.
