Job summary

Chime Engineering is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the evolution of our risk architecture within Trust & Safety. You will set technical direction, design scalable systems, mentor engineers, and ensure secure, reliable APIs that protect our members.

This hybrid San Francisco role requires 5+ years in production software, prior technical leadership, and deep experience with Ruby on Rails, data stores, and large-scale web architectures.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development in production
• Experience leading complex projects and coordinating teams
• Strong Rails or comparable framework experience
• Experience with scalable web architectures and databases
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive technical decisions
• Interest in observability, performance, and reliability
• Experience in fast-paced or early-stage environments is a plus

Responsibilities

• Drive technical design and architectural decisions while mentoring engineers
• Lead multiple projects, owning key initiatives and contributing to broader efforts
• Build and maintain low-latency backend services and APIs
• Become domain expert on platform architecture and provide technical solutions
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship features
• Improve reliability and performance through architecture, observability, and automation
• Evolve policy lifecycle, experimentation, and ML integration for smarter decisions
• Participate in on-call rotation as needed
