Job summary

Humana Inc is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to maintain the NBA platform’s health, reliability, and long-term maintainability. You will develop a working understanding of the stack—from Java and Drools to React/Node and Databricks—and use that breadth to diagnose issues, improve reliability, and implement focused features wherever needed.

This hands-on role emphasizes observability, performance, and collaboration with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Comfortable with Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL across a polyglot codebase.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability: logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience on Azure or equivalent cloud, with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance mindset: healthy, well-documented code.
• Clear communicator able to explain complex systems to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance - Maintain and support services across the full platform; build and keep current a working knowledge of each component and how they integrate.
• Reliability Engineering - Monitor platform health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation - Design and ship focused features, enhancements, and technical improvements across platform components.
• Observability - Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting so the team has clear visibility into what the system is doing in production.
• Performance and scale - Profile and tune components under load; help the platform scale reliably as member volume and data throughput grow.
• Quality - Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards so changes ship production-ready.
• Incident response - Participate in the on-call rotation, lead root-cause analysis, and turn incidents into durable fixes and preventative improvements.
• Collaboration - Work with the delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to understand new components and smoothly take on their long-term ownership.
