Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and scalable. You will navigate Java/Drools, React/Node/Postgres, Node.js/Temporal, Kafka, and Databricks pipelines to diagnose issues and implement targeted improvements across the stack.

This hands-on role emphasizes reliability, observability, and collaboration with Delivery Pods and Decision Intelligence, with remote/hybrid options and occasional travel for training or meetings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Able to read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability: structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance-and-reliability mindset: health and well-documented code are priorities.
• Clear communicator who can explain complex systems to engineers and non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — Maintain and support services across the full platform; keep current on components and integrations.
• Reliability Engineering — Monitor health, investigate issues, and resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — Design and ship focused features and enhancements across platform components.
• Observability — Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for clear production visibility.
• Performance and scale — Profile and tune components under load; ensure reliable scaling with growth.
• Quality — Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — Participate in on-call, lead root-cause analysis, and prevent recurrences.
• Collaboration — Work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to own long-term components.
