Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable.

You will work across Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL, building a thorough understanding of the stack, diagnosing issues, and implementing enhancements to improve reliability and performance. You will maintain services across the platform, monitor health, and drive feature implementations with strong emphasis on observability, scalability, and clean, production-ready code.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Comfortable working across a polyglot codebase; read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems: APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability practices — structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance-and-reliability mindset: treat operational health and clean code as first-class work.
• Clear communicator who can explain a system or an incident to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — Maintain and support services across the full platform; build and keep current a working knowledge of each component and how they integrate.
• Reliability Engineering — Monitor platform health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — Design and ship focused features, enhancements, and technical improvements across platform components.
• Observability — Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting so the team has clear visibility into production.
• Performance and scale — Profile and tune components under load; help the platform scale reliably as member volume grows.
• Quality — Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — Participate in on-call rotation, root-cause analysis, and durable fixes.
• Collaboration — Work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to understand new components and ownership.
