Job summary

Pivotal Health seeks an experienced backend/platform engineer to own components of the product platform end to end, from identity and access to data schemas and APIs. You will partner with product, data, and infra teams to keep the platform reliable, extensible, and scalable as the customer base grows.

You will design reusable abstractions, guide system interactions, and improve monitoring and tooling. A strong focus on security, reliability, and customer impact is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or platform software engineering experience.
• Strong Python programming and software engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (GCP preferred).
• Experience with relational databases and data modeling including production schema evolution.
• Familiarity with event-driven systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis or similar).
• Ability to design reusable platform components and APIs for cross-team use.
• Knowledge of identity and access systems (RBAC, SSO) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own platform components end to end: design, build and operate services and schemas with clear ownership of reliability.
• Design for extension and reuse: create composable abstractions and well-defined interfaces.
• Design scalable system interactions and data flows balancing scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
• Improve reliability and operational signal with monitoring, alerts, dashboards, and tests.
• Reduce toil by identifying repeatable patterns and creating abstractions or tooling.
• Partner with product teams as an embedded platform owner to support feature delivery.
