Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) seeks an experienced Senior Platforms Engineer for the Refining IT Edge team. The role focuses on designing, evolving, and governing secure, scalable hybrid and multi-cloud platforms with an emphasis on automation through Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.

You will lead cross-functional programs, manage vendor partnerships, and drive modernization balancing technical, operational, and business priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience racking infrastructure hardware (Dell/HP or equivalents).
• Experience with Linux, Windows Server, VMware, Hyper‑V/Nutanix and storage systems.
• Experience with cloud integrations (Azure/AWS).
• Experience with Rubrik backup and disaster recovery exercises.
• Proven ownership of large-scale initiatives.
• Experience in regulated/complex environments.

Responsibilities

• Identify performance bottlenecks and propose solutions to improve platform performance.
• Develop and improve troubleshooting procedures and minimize downtime; partner with vendor support.
• Lead backup planning, disaster recovery design and testing.
• Analyze performance data and prepare reports with optimization recommendations.
• Lead design and configuration of complex platforms; govern scalable hybrid/multi-cloud infrastructure.
