Job summary

Horizon3 is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join the Internal Platform Team (IPT) and shape the cloud foundations behind NodeZero. You will lead cross‑team initiatives, define platform direction, and establish standards that make systems secure, reliable, and easy to operate.

This hands‑on technical leadership role requires solving ambiguous problems, building reusable platform capabilities, and mentoring engineers across multiple teams. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in platform engineering or related fields with production‑level ownership.
• Deep experience designing and operating cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong Kubernetes experience including production operations, networking, reliability, and troubleshooting.
• Strong infrastructure‑as‑code and automation with Terraform, Crossplane, or similar tools.
• Experience operating CI/CD and delivery infrastructure.
• Understanding of IAM, secrets, networking, ingress, and least privilege.
• Experience with distributed‑systems observability and operational practices.
• Go and Python proficiency for platform services and tooling.
• Demonstrated success leading complex initiatives across teams.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and technical influence.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and evolution of AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and shared platform services.
• Define architecture for infrastructure automation and regional capabilities.
• Build reusable platform capabilities and self‑service workflows.
• Evolve infra‑as‑code approaches with Terraform and Crossplane.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and operability.
• Participate in on‑call and incident response, driving post‑incident improvements.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across engineering teams.
• Improve documentation, runbooks, interfaces, and self‑service paths.
