Job summary

Horizon3 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build the platform that NodeZero’s defensive agents run on. You’ll own the runtime, orchestration, and observability for thousands of customer tenants, ensuring safe, production-grade deployment of agent actions.

You’ll collaborate with AI researchers to translate prototypes into shippable, scalable software with strong isolation and security policies. This role offers hybrid/remote work with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, CS Eng or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in OO or functional languages.
• Experience building apps on AWS/Azure/GCP with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Expert proficiency in SQL.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production: async workflows, queues, retries, idempotency.
• Track record shipping and operating production services with on-call ownership.

Responsibilities

• Build the agent execution runtime with durable, resumable workflows, idempotent steps, cancellation, and timeouts.
• Design and implement the tool layer — registry with versioning, schema validation, per-tenant enablement, server-side authorization.
• Build the connector framework for third-party security control planes (EDR, firewall, identity, SIEM, cloud IAM).
• Implement safe-change pipeline: dry-run, simulation, blast-radius classification, approval gates, staged rollout, rollback, immutable audit trail.
• Extend NodeZero's tenant isolation model to agents with write actions, covering execution boundaries, egress control, quotas, and cross-tenant leakage.
• Develop core product features in ETL and GraphQL to support data processing and remediation state.
• Build ETL pipelines turning pentest outcomes into datasets for researchers.
• Instrument everything: distributed tracing, cost and token accounting, and explainability tooling.
• Partner with AI researchers and product to move capabilities from prototype to production.
