Job summary

Thomson Reuters seeks a backend engineer to design and operate scalable AI platform services. You will own backend workflows, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure, collaborating across product, applied-AI, and infra teams to deliver reliable AI-enabled capabilities.

You will contribute to CI/CD, progressive delivery, and observability, while mentoring junior engineers and driving architectural decisions for reliability and performance in a distributed microservices environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in Python (FastAPI or similar) or another backend language with distributed systems experience.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, API design, and AWS, including container orchestration with Kubernetes (EKS).
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline engineering and progressive delivery patterns.
• Infrastructure-as-Code practices for cloud infrastructure management.
• Hands-on observability tooling experience (OpenTelemetry, Datadog) for production systems.
• Experience with AI/LLM infrastructure components (e.g., agent runtimes, gateways, retrieval pipelines) is a strong plus.
• Strong system design, debugging, and performance optimization skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver backend and platform services powering AI agent workflows for reliable scale.
• Contribute to CI/CD and progressive-delivery infrastructure to ship safely and continuously.
• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Make architectural decisions focused on scalability, reliability, and maintainability in a microservices/event-driven system.
• Collaborate with product, applied-AI, and infrastructure teams on cross-functional initiatives.
• Uphold high engineering standards: code quality, automated testing, observability, and on-call readiness.
• Develop observability with metrics, logging, and tracing for fast incident diagnosis.
• Strengthen monitoring and incident response for production systems running on managed AI runtimes and Kubernetes.
• Participate in on-call rotation and mentor junior engineers.
