Job summary

WEX is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer IV to join the Platform Engineering team, building and operating an enterprise Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) across AWS and Azure. You will lead, mentor, and drive architectural direction, focusing on scalable, secure, and reliable platform capabilities for hundreds of development teams.

The ideal candidate brings deep Kubernetes, cloud, and IaC experience, with strong automation and developer experience in mind.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Go (preferred), Java, C#, Python, or similar languages.
• Deep experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Cloud experience on AWS and/or Azure.
• Terraform for IaC.
• CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
• Designing REST APIs and distributed systems.
• Strong networking, DNS, TLS, load balancing, and cloud infra knowledge.
• Proven production service operation experience.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core capabilities of the enterprise PaaS.
• Develop scalable automation using Go, Terraform, Kubernetes, and cloud-native tech.
• Create reusable platform services to boost developer productivity.
• Build and maintain APIs, operators, controllers, and automation.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Lead secure infrastructure design aligned with security/compliance.
• Automate provisioning, deployment workflows, secrets, networking, and ops.
• Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical leadership.
• Troubleshoot complex distributed systems and production issues.
• Collaborate with Security, Networking, Cloud Infra, and App Eng teams.
• Mentor junior engineers through design and code reviews.
