Job summary

The HT Group is seeking a Senior Platform/Backend Engineer in a hybrid setup near Round Rock, TX. You will design and build backend services and data-platform components for high-volume telemetry and data processing, while guiding engineering standards and mentoring the team.

You will work on scalable ingestion, distributed job processing, and secure data workflows, collaborating with frontend, ML, product, and infra teams to deliver reliable, production-grade software.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend, platform, or distributed systems.
• Experience designing distributed services with concurrency, retries, idempotency, and horizontal scaling.
• Production APIs with Protobuf and gRPC, including versioning, auth, and authorization.
• Strong relational database experience including data modeling and performance tuning.
• Experience with object storage like S3 and large-scale analytics or time-series data systems.
• Containerized deployments with Docker/Kubernetes, and automated CI/CD workflows.
• Knowledge of security, reliability practices, observability, and incident troubleshooting.
• Ability to translate architecture and product requirements into implementation plans and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement core backend and data-platform services.
• Create stable API contracts using Protobuf and gRPC.
• Design and maintain relational DB schemas for data management.
• Build scalable ingestion workflows for high-volume telemetry data.
• Develop distributed workers and job-processing systems.
• Implement secure data upload/download and object-management workflows.
• Establish automated testing across units, integrations, and load tests.
• Support troubleshooting, QA, incident response, and production reliability.
• Implement observability through logging, metrics, dashboards, alerts.
• Package, deploy, and operate cloud-native, containerized services.
• Collaborate with frontend, ML, product, and infra teams.
• Document APIs, data contracts, and deployment procedures.
• Mentor engineers and establish coding standards.
• Ensure platform security and compliance.
