Job summary

JPMorganChase in Palo Alto is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Commercial & Investment Bank Payments Technology Team. You will design, develop, and optimize high-performance, low-latency OLTP systems powering mission-critical financial applications.

You will guide architecture decisions, write secure production code with a focus on latency, and collaborate across cross-functional teams including SRE/DevOps to deploy in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building low-latency, high-throughput OLTP systems in Java.
• Experience with Spring Boot for latency-sensitive transactional platforms.
• Advanced Java proficiency with concurrency, JVM internals, and GC tuning.
• Expert knowledge of relational databases and performance optimization.
• Experience designing low-latency APIs using Protobuf, gRPC, and streaming patterns.
• Deep Kafka expertise for real-time event streaming in OLTP pipelines.
• Experience with JMS messaging (IBM MQ, ActiveMQ).
• Cloud-native deployment of latency-critical Spring Boot services.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to teams and vendors on low-latency architectures.

• Shape architecture and product design, functionality, and operational processes.
