Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Richland, WA is seeking a Piping Engineer to perform calculations, create specifications, and develop piping designs under supervision. The role emphasizes ASME codes, piping analysis, and vibration/thermal assessments for nuclear projects, with a hybrid schedule requiring three days in the office.

You will prepare input documentation, review designs, mentor junior engineers, and participate in budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET‑approved program.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME BPV Section III piping codes.
• Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares complex calculations and reviews simple calculations.
• Reviews simple system/structural designs.
• Prepares, under supervision, documented design input for drawing production (P&IDs and Master Diagrams).
• Prepares specifications for most balance of plant equipment.
• Prepares bid evaluations for single components and supports economic evaluations.
• Monitors own work to ensure budget and schedule adherence.
• Mentors entry‑level engineers when needed.
