Penn Medicine is seeking a Level II Phlebotomist for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, 3400 Spruce St. The role emphasizes accurate specimen collection, safety, and mentoring Level I staff within a collaborative team.

The ideal candidate will perform venipuncture, specimen labeling, and data entry into EMR/LIS, while adhering to SOPs and HIPAA—supporting high-quality patient care in a busy hospital environment.

Qualificações

• American Society for Clinical Pathology (Required)
• Certification as a PBT or MLA by a minimum knowledge-based exam such as the Board of Certification PBT(ASCP) or MLA(ASCP)

Responsabilidades

• Identifies development stage of patients and significant others
• Uses knowledge of growth and development when communicating to various age groups
• Explains information according to age and developmental level of patients and visitors
• Identifies communication barriers and intervenes appropriately
• Recognizes cultural differences and adjusts communication styles accordingly
• Listens to patient queries and provides appropriate information
• Introduces self when interacting with patients, families, visitors or staff
• Enters patient demographics, test orders, billing information into EMR/LIS
• Follows SOPs and age-specific techniques for specimen collection
• Identifies patients (outpatients/inpatients) with 100% accuracy
• Performs venipuncture and micro-capillary collection
• May perform specialized collection (breath alcohol testing, hair collection, EKGs)
• Labels specimens with 100% accuracy
• Draws timed/scheduled samples promptly
• Monitors patient condition for adverse reactions to phlebotomy
• Performs patient-sample processing activities
• Maintains a safe/clean work area
• Observes safety practices and HIPAA regulations
• Notifies supervisor of hazards
• Completes annual mandatories
• Ensures adequate staffing across shifts, weekends and holidays

Formação académica

H.S. Diploma/GED

Equivalent Experience: 4+ years Phlebotomy training and experience in an outpatient or hospital setting
