Job summary

Vonage is seeking a senior backend performance engineer to define and lead performance testing across cloud-native platforms. You will mentor SDETs, design scalable frameworks using k6, Python, Java, or TypeScript, and champion production traffic replay and chaos engineering strategies.

You will work with observability tools, guide CI/CD integration, and help set SLAs/SLOs for high-throughput, low-latency APIs and event-driven systems.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated hands-on backend performance engineering and automation in Python, Java, or TypeScript.
• Proven track record of performance, scalability, and resilience testing in AWS-based cloud-native systems.
• Strong experience designing large-scale performance test strategies and leading QA/SDET teams to execute them.
• Experience with API performance testing, integration testing, and system-level non-functional validation.
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and log analysis tools.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the performance engineering strategy across high-availability, cloud-native platforms.
• Lead, train, and coordinate a distributed guild of SDETs across feature teams.
• Design and evolve scalable backend performance frameworks (k6, Python, Java, TypeScript).
• Implement and manage production traffic replay strategies (GoReplay) and data generation for realistic load.
• Own performance testing across legacy monoliths and modern microservices, including chaos testing (AWS Fault Injection Simulator).
• Monitor and troubleshoot performance using Grafana, CloudWatch, Coralogix, PMM; establish benchmarks, SLAs, and SLOs.
