Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Sr. Software Perception Engineer to design, implement, and test advanced perception algorithms for mobile off-road machines. You will work on sensor fusion, object detection, tracking, and classification, integrating perception into a broader software stack and hardware platform.

Collaboration with engineers and researchers is essential to ensure safety, reliability, and performance. You will develop production-quality perception software using C++ and Python, leverage ROS,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and Master's degrees in engineering, CS, robotics or related field.
• 3–5+ years in perception for robotics, autonomy, or operator assist systems.
• ≥2 years ML for perception (tuning/training models).
• Strong CV, sensor fusion, and ML concepts applied to real problems.
• Proficient in C++ and Python for production software.
• Experience with ROS or similar autonomous frameworks.
• Hands-on work with camera, LiDAR, radar data.
• Experience using OpenCV and TF/PyTorch for perception models.
• Familiarity with autonomy software integration and Agile life cycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test perception algorithms (sensor fusion, object detection, tracking).
• Develop high-quality perception software and enable autonomous features.
• Collaborate with data collection teams to analyze robotic platform performance.
• Annotate data and participate in ML training cycles to meet accuracy targets.
• Document architecture, design, test plans, and procedures clearly.
• Use debugging and validation tools to ensure software quality.
• Write and review autonomy and operator-assist perception software.
• Integrate perception modules into broader machine control frameworks.
• Work across hardware, software, and data pipelines to resolve root causes.
• Engage in cross-functional teamwork and Agile planning.
