Job summary

FieldAI, based in Irvine, CA, is hiring a Robotics Autonomy Engineer - Perception to own and advance the perception stack for federal autonomy programs. You will lead development of perception for robots operating in unstructured terrains, handling performance, robustness, and deployment on new platforms and sensors.

Qualifications

• PhD in robotics, CS, EE, or related field, or MS with 2+ years of industry experience, or BS with 4+ years.
• Strong background in robot perception, localization, and mapping (SLAM) for real-world robotic systems.
• Hands-on experience deploying perception software in field robotics environments.
• Proficiency in modern robotics software development (C++, Python) and ROS/ROS2 based systems.
• Experience with sensor fusion, state estimation (VIO, LIO), and hardware debugging.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain perception systems for autonomous robots operating in real-world environments.
• Develop perception algorithms that fuse data from multiple sensors (LiDAR, cameras, RADAR, inertial).
• Deploy perception software on real robots and debug issues from on-robot testing and field operations.
• Improve system robustness and scalability; develop tools, metrics, and tests to monitor performance.
• Collaborate with autonomy, controls, and platform teams to ensure perception integrates into the full autonomy stack.
