Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Sr. Software Perception Engineer in a contract role based out of Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX.

You will design, implement and test perception algorithms for mobile off-road machines, focusing on sensor fusion, object detection, tracking and classification within a broader software stack. You will collaborate with engineers and researchers to integrate perception solutions, apply ML training cycles, and ensure safety, reliability and performance across the system using ROS,

Qualifications

Must have a university degree in engineering, CS, robotics or a related field.
3–5+ years of experience developing perception systems for robotics, autonomous systems, or operator assist features.
2+ years of ML for perception (training/tuning deep learning models).
Strong knowledge of computer vision, sensor fusion and ML concepts for real-world perception.
Proficiency in C++ and Python for production perception software.
Experience with ROS or similar autonomous infrastructure frameworks.
Hands-on experience with camera, LiDAR and/or radar data for perception apps.
Experience with OpenCV and TensorFlow or PyTorch for deep learning perception models.
Familiarity with lidar, radar and cameras in autonomy software stacks.
Understanding of Agile software development lifecycle for perception projects.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, test algorithms for sensor fusion, object detection, tracking and classification.
Develop high-quality perception software addressing customer needs and safety requirements.
Collaborate with data/application teams to analyze sensor data for performance improvements.
Annotate data and participate in ML training cycles for perception performance targets.
Document architecture, designs, test plans and procedures clearly.
Use debugging and testing tools to ensure software quality across perception pipelines.
Develop autonomy perception software ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
Contribute to integration and testing of complex autonomy systems within schedules.
Focus on safety, productivity and robustness of perception modules.
Solve cross-subsystem issues spanning software, hardware and data pipelines.
Work independently yet collaborate within a multidisciplinary team using Agile methods.
