Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Perception organization in Austin, TX. You will design and develop real-time perception software for loading dock automation and autonomous forklift systems, mentor engineers, and help define long-term technical roadmaps.

The role requires a Master’s degree, 10+ years in real-time software, and hands-on experience with Linux, Docker, ROS/ROS2, CI/CD, and multi-threaded architectures. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Robotics or related field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in software for complex, real-time systems.
• Deep Perception robotics expertise: SLAM, sensor fusion, state estimation, CV, real-time processing of multiple sensors.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop real-time, high-performance perception software for automated forklift and loading dock systems.
• Lead technical efforts within the Perception organization and collaborate with broader Symbotic engineering teams.
• Mentor and grow engineers; contribute to long-term technical roadmaps.
• Address root causes affecting product performance using systems-level thinking.
• Engage with customer program stakeholders on scope and KPIs; contribute to cross-team planning.
