Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a PCB Layout Engineer in San Francisco to own layout from floor planning to fabrication release. You will work closely with electrical, SI/PI, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to design high-density boards for advanced robotic systems.

The role requires in-person presence four days per week and emphasizes HDI design, tight impedance control, and collaboration with fabricators to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience designing complex, multilayer PCBs.
• Strong HDI design experience including fine-pitch BGAs and microvias.
• Fluent in Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and Constraint Manager.
• Solid understanding of signal and power integrity principles.

Responsibilities

• Own PCB layout, component placement, routing and fabrication release for complex robotic systems.
• Collaborate with SI/PI engineers to refine layouts from simulation results.
• Implement high-speed routing, controlled impedance, proper power distribution, decoupling, grounding and EMI/EMC compliance.
• Define stack-ups with fabricators, drive DFM/ DFA/ DFT reviews and close findings before release.
• Prepare fabrication/assembly drawings, ODB++, drill files, stack-up tables and manufacturing notes.
• Inspect PCBAs on delivery and participate in board-level manufacturing failure analysis.
