Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead PCBA test infrastructure for advanced robotics. You will own architecture, fixture design, and test strategies from prototyping through deployment with contract manufacturers.

This senior individual-contributor role blends development-lab work with field deployment, requiring hands-on wiring, debugging, and collaboration with mechanical, firmware, software, and reliability teams to deliver robust, scalable test stations.

Qualifications

• Ability to independently deliver significant electronics test-system projects from ambiguous requirements through working hardware, validation, and sustained use.
• Hands-on circuit and fixture-interface design and board bring-up experience.
• Ability to debug PCBA test hardware with oscilloscopes, meters, logic analyzers, and root-cause analysis.
• Ability to write and maintain code interfacing with hardware (Python or similar) for instrument control and sequencing.
• Practical understanding of grounding, signal integrity, calibration, and ESD controls.

Responsibilities

• Own PCBA test-station architecture and interfaces, programming and diagnostics.
• Translate requirements into test coverage and pass/fail criteria with designers.
• Design and bring up fixture interface boards, harnesses, and connectors; release docs and BOMs.
• Integrate test hardware and validate calibration, timing, and repeatability across revisions.
• Write, debug, and maintain test code and ensure reliable releases.
