Job summary

Somatus is seeking a Payroll and Tax Manager to oversee bi-weekly payroll for a mid-sized organization. You will manage a small team, ensure accurate multi-state payroll, and maintain strict compliance with federal and state rules.

The role requires hands-on involvement, attention to detail, and collaboration with HR, Finance, and leadership to support business initiatives. Hybrid work from McLean, VA is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business, or related field is required.
• 5-7+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
• Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems (ADP, Workday, UKG, Ceridian, Paycom, etc.).
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a small team.
• Hybrid work in our corporate office in McLean, VA.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the end-to-end processing of bi-weekly payroll for all employees (hourly and salaried).
• Review and validate payroll prepared by the Sr. Payroll Administrator.
• Ensure data accuracy: deductions, garnishments, withholding elections, and compensation changes.
• Ensure payroll taxes filings at federal, state, and local levels.
• Manage audits, inquiries, and tax notices; stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Audit payroll reports, GL files, and tax filings for accuracy.
• Lead process improvements and system enhancements.
• Serve as system administrator for the payroll/HRIS platform.
