Job summary

McKinstry in Seattle, WA, seeks a Senior Payroll Specialist to own complex payroll processing within a high-volume environment. You will lead data validation across HRIS/time systems, manage instant checks, and drive accuracy for union and prevailing wage payroll while mentoring staff and contributing to SOP improvements.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in payroll, strong Excel, and deep knowledge of multi-system integrations, with the ability to handle complex scenarios under weekly deadlines.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor's in Accounting or Business preferred.
• 5+ years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment.
• Experience with union payroll processes: CBA interpretation, prevailing wage, fringe benefits.
• Experience with multi-system payroll imports/exports across platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with AI-assisted tools.

Responsibilities

• Execute weekly payroll for diverse employee populations with prevailing wage rules.
• Manage data movement via system imports/exports and validate templates.
• Perform in-cycle cross-system data validation to catch discrepancies.
• Process deductions including benefits, 401(k), garnishments, and levies.
• Lead balancing, exception reporting, and sign-off on payroll accuracy.
