Job summary

McKinstry is seeking a Payroll Specialist in Seattle to process payroll for field crews, office staff, and operators across multiple integrated systems. You’ll validate timekeeping, apply prevailing wage and union rules, and ensure accurate postings to job costing and general ledger.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of payroll experience, strong Excel skills, and experience with multi-system imports/exports. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business preferred.
• 2+ years of payroll processing experience required.
• Experience with system-to-system payroll imports/exports preferred; willingness to develop this capability quickly.

Responsibilities

• Collect, review, and validate weekly timekeeping data from field supervisors and submissions.
• Execute weekly payroll for assigned employee populations including field crews, equipment operators, and office staff.
• Manage all payroll data movement via system imports and exports; prepare, format, and validate data files to match import templates.
• Perform in-cycle cross-system data validation and resolve discrepancies before cycle closes.
• Process all deductions including health benefits, 401(k), union dues, and garnishments.
• Support pre- and post-cycle balancing, exception reporting, and reconciliation tasks.
• Prepare and submit monthly union benefit reports for CBAs.
• Respond to employee pay inquiries and maintain case status in the system.
