Senior Payroll Processing Analyst – Dallas, TX

Must Reside in the Dallas‑Fort Worth (DFW) area, Employment Type: Contract‑to‑Hire, Work Arrangement: Hybrid, Pay Rate: $31.00–$37.00/hour.

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Processing Analyst for a contract‑to‑hire opportunity in Dallas, TX. This hybrid position is responsible for processing, auditing, and maintaining complex payroll transactions while ensuring accurate and timely employee payments and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. The ideal candidate has at least 7 years of hands‑on payroll processing experience with strong knowledge of gross‑to‑net calculations, payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, retroactive pay, off‑cycle payrolls, and payroll adjustments. Hands‑on PeopleSoft and UKG experience is required. Candidates must also hold a Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and audit payroll accurately and within established payroll deadlines.
  • Review and process regular wages, overtime, deductions, taxes, benefit changes, and other payroll transactions.
  • Process payroll adjustments related to new hires, terminations, employee status changes, compensation changes, and other employee updates.
  • Input and upload approved payroll adjustments within the payroll system.
  • Review gross‑to‑net calculations and identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Process federal, state, and local tax changes and adjustments.
  • Balance and review federal, state, and local payroll tax files.
  • Partner with payroll tax resources to resolve tax processing questions and discrepancies.
  • Process employee benefit deductions, retirement contributions, garnishments, and other payroll deductions.
  • Calculate and process retroactive payments and payroll corrections.
  • Create manual checks and process off‑cycle payrolls as needed.
  • Support special payroll processing, including bonuses and incentive payments.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and ensure all payroll updates and audit changes are properly documented.
  • Audit payroll transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and coordinate with internal departments to ensure payroll changes are received and processed accurately and timely.
  • Research and respond to employee questions regarding payroll calculations, deductions, taxes, and payments.
  • Protect confidential employee and payroll information.
  • Ensure payroll transactions comply with internal policies and applicable government regulations.
  • Perform additional payroll‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands‑on payroll processing experience.
  • PeopleSoft payroll experience required, preferably Oracle PeopleSoft 9.2.
  • UKG experience required, including UKG Dimensions, Kronos, or related workforce management functionality.
  • Current Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end payroll processing and gross‑to‑net calculations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax processing.
  • Experience processing payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, retirement contributions, and tax adjustments.
  • Experience calculating retroactive pay and processing payroll corrections.
  • Experience processing manual checks and off‑cycle payrolls.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and PivotTables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, auditing, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately within strict payroll deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to effectively respond to employee payroll inquiries.
  • Must reside in the Dallas‑Fort Worth (DFW) area and be able to work a hybrid schedule in Dallas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Advanced experience with Oracle PeopleSoft 9.2 Payroll.
  • Experience with UKG Dimensions or Kronos.
  • Experience processing payroll within a large, complex organization.
