Job summary

LHH US in Tempe, AZ, is hiring a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for a multi-state workforce. Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote. The role involves guiding the payroll team, ensuring accuracy, and tightening controls across earnings, taxes, and benefits.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in payroll leadership, strong ERP experience (Oracle/SAP/Workday/UKG/Dayforce/ADP), advanced Excel, and solid analytical and communication skills. CPP a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of payroll leadership experience.
• Experience processing large volume payrolls for thousands of employees.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance.
• Experience with large ERP platforms (Oracle, SAP, Workday, UKG, Dayforce, ADP).
• Advanced Excel skills with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Union payroll experience preferred.
• CPP certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll across multiple locations and jurisdictions.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits.
• Lead, mentor, and develop payroll staff with best practices.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting activities.
• Partner with HR, Accounting, and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy.
• Analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
• Manage month-end activities, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.
• Support system upgrades, testing, and enhancements within payroll/ERP.
• Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Serve as primary escalation point for complex payroll issues.
