Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking a Payroll Manager to join the Accounting and Finance Team. The role oversees the hands-on, day-to-day payroll execution for the firm and some assigned US offices, ensuring accurate and timely payments.

You will manage multi-state payroll, tax setup, and deductions, while supervising direct reports and coordinating with the UK payroll team for secondees. A CPP or equivalent certification and leadership experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive multi-state payroll experience.
• Extensive knowledge of wage and hour regulations, federal, state and local tax laws including multi-state and reciprocity rules.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise HRIS/Payroll platforms: Ascentis, Workday, ADP Workforce Now or UKG Pro.
• Proficient in spreadsheet and database applications.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll processing for US employees across all states and remote workers.
• Audit new employee tax setup and transmit semi-monthly payroll files.
• Oversee updates of hires, salary changes, terminations and tax status in payroll system.
• Review timelogs in Workday and coordinate edits with HR.
• Administer benefit deductions in the payroll system.
