Job summary

C.A.C. Industries, Inc. in Long Island City, NY is seeking a senior payroll manager who will oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a growing heavy/civil construction contractor.

You will ensure compliance with labor regulations, benefits administration, and accurate timely payroll processing while partnering with HR, Finance, and Legal. Lead a payroll team of about 4, drive process improvements, and implement scalable solutions using CMiC and other systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a dedicated manager position.
• Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas).
• Experience with preparing 940/941 and W-2 forms.
• Experience with union payroll processing, reporting, compliance, audits and union remittance.
• Construction industry background preferred.
• CPP designation highly desired.
• CMiC construction software experience preferred.
• Sage Timberline experience preferred.
• System implementation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Payroll Processing: Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process, including data input, validation, and distribution of payroll checks or direct deposits.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
• Compliance: Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance. Implement and enforce company policies related to payroll processing.
• Audits: Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify and correct discrepancies. Ensure accuracy in employee records, tax withholdings, and other payroll-related information.
• Reporting: Generate and analyze payroll reports, providing insights into payroll costs
• Communication: Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to address payroll-related inquiries and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Technology Integration: Utilize payroll software and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Evaluate and implement new technologies as needed.
• Benefits Administration: Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and other related benefits.
• Tax Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely submission of payroll taxes and other statutory deductions. Collaborate with the finance department to meet all tax obligations.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in payroll operations.
• Reconciliations: Verify payroll records and employee compensation are accurate.

We are currently seeking a full-time detail-oriented highly analytical and leadership driven Sr. Payroll Manager with expertise in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will oversee, streamline, and scale our payroll operations. In this role, you will ensure compliance with the company’s end-to-end payroll functions, including labor regulations, benefits administration, accuracy, timely and in compliance with federal, state, local regulations. As a partner to HR, Finance and our Legal teams, you will leverage advanced technology to establish scalable payroll processes and lead a high performing payroll team of approximately 4 members.

This position requires the candidate to be on-site, Monday through Friday at our Long Island City, Queens office.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a dedicated manager position, performing all payroll functions and utilizing and understanding the flow of transactions with a payroll accounting system, reconciling, etc.
• Advanced excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
• Experience with preparing 940/941 and W-2 forms
• Experience with union payroll processing, reporting, compliance, audits and union remittance
• Construction industry background preferred
• Experience with Certified payroll reporting (CPP) designation is highly desired
• Experience with CMiC construction software preferred
• Experience with Sage Timberline preferred
• System implementation experience preferred
