Job summary

Welch's is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead accurate, timely, and compliant payroll for a multi-state workforce, including union and non-union employees. You will oversee end-to-end payroll operations, develop the payroll team, and partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and plant leadership.

Based in Waltham, MA, the role follows a hybrid model with in-office Mon-Wed and remote Thu-Fri, with occasional travel to manufacturing locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership.
• Experience with multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax requirements and wage laws.
• Experience with enterprise payroll and timekeeping systems; CPP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end payroll for a multi-state workforce with diverse employee types.
• Manage payroll accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with laws.
• Develop and coach the payroll team; define roles and performance metrics.
• Oversee payroll tax compliance, filings, and audits.
• Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll and GL accounts; support month-/year-end close.
• Serve as payroll SME for HRIS and timekeeping systems; test changes with IT.
• Monitor data quality and resolve issues in employee records and pay data.
• Drive process improvements and automation to reduce manual work.
