Baker Tilly Advisory Group, LP is seeking a Payroll Consultant to support a range of payroll engagements and improve client processes. The role is mostly remote with office proximity requirements within 50 miles of select Baker Tilly locations.

Ideal candidates have 3 years of payroll experience, knowledge of multistate regulations, and familiarity with major payroll systems. CPP certification is strongly preferred. Salary ranges reflect market variation and experience.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience, ideally within a consulting firm, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; experience may substitute.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar platforms.
• CPP certification strongly preferred (or in progress).

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies.
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C).
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and other multistate considerations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work.
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations.
