Baker Tilly is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvements across multiple clients. The role emphasizes multistate payroll issues, regulatory reviews, and collaboration with client teams.

You will work with leading payroll platforms and apply payroll knowledge to complex situations, guiding projects to timely, high-quality results. The position blends remote work with occasional onsite responsibilities within the U.S.

Qualifications

• Three years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll.
• Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, HR, Business, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processes, multistate regulations, and compliance.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Familiarity with ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar systems.
• CPP certification preferred (or in progress).
• Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements for a range of clients and geographies.
• Assess and improve client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews (federal, state, local).
• Assist with payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941).
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration for earnings, deductions, and tax treatments.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Research payroll regulations, including reciprocity and multistate considerations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate work.
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure deadlines are met.
