Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego seeks a Payroll Administrator to oversee day-to-day payroll operations, train junior staff, ensure timely weekly processing, and uphold compliance with company policies, bargaining agreements, and state and federal law.

This role reports to the Payroll Supervisor or Accounting Manager and aims to maintain accurate payroll while delivering excellent service to team members in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• 6–8 years of proven experience managing and processing full-cycle payroll.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly encouraged.
• Deep understanding of payroll software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workforce AutoTime) and Microsoft Excel/Word.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and wage/hour laws (FLSA).

Responsibilities

• Execute full-cycle payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
• Supervise daily payroll activities and workflows to maintain end-to-end processing.
• Manage deductions including benefits, retirement contributions, taxes, garnishments, and levies.
• Maintain complete payroll records compliant with regulatory standards and company policies.
• Assist in system implementation and monitoring software changes.
• Identify ways to boost efficiency and support payroll operational updates.
• Prepare specialized payroll reports for upper management.
• Reconcile payroll postings with the general ledger.
• Document and update internal payroll procedures for changes in laws.
• Serve as subject matter expert for internal and external payroll audits.
