Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO, located in San Diego, seeks a Payroll Administrator to oversee weekly payroll, supervise junior staff, and ensure compliance with all applicable policies and laws. You will train teammates, ensure accurate processing, and handle audits while providing excellent service to employees.

The role requires strong knowledge of federal/state/local payroll regulations, experience with major systems, and proficiency in Excel/Word. CPP encouraged; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Six to eight (6-8) years of proven experience managing and processing full-cycle payroll.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is strongly encouraged.
• Deep understanding of payroll software (PeopleSoft, Workforce AutoTime) and proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPS, pivot tables) and Word.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and wage/hour laws (FLSA).
• Exceptional data entry accuracy and strong analytical skills to reconcile payroll discrepancies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to resolve employee payroll inquiries and maintain confidential data.

Responsibilities

• Execute full-cycle payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Supervise daily payroll activities and workflows to maintain end-to-end processing.
• Manage deductions including benefits, retirement contributions, taxes, garnishments, and levies.
• Maintain complete and accurate payroll records in compliance with regulations.
• Assist in system implementation and monitor software changes.
• Identify efficiency improvements and support payroll process updates.
• Prepare specialized payroll reports for upper management.
• Research post accounting transactions related to payroll and ensure GL alignment.
• Document and update internal payroll procedures to reflect changes in laws.
• Serve as subject matter expert for payroll audits.
