Job summary

Mercy Health’s Sr Spec Patient Access role in Youngstown, OH, oversees admitting duties for inpatients and outpatients. Responsibilities include training staff, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with Mercy Health policies while delivering excellent customer service.

The position requires 2–3 years in patient access or leadership, strong Revenue Cycle knowledge, insurance verification, and the ability to manage on-call coverage. Weekend/holiday rotation and day shifts are included.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience in patient access or leadership role (preferred)
• Understanding of Revenue Cycle including admission, billing, payments and denials
• Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance process for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification
• Knowledge of Health Insurance requirements
• Knowledge of CPT terminology or procedure codes
• Typing speed of 45 words per minute
• Ability to schedule and coordinate workflows

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate MRNs and perform medical necessity/compliance checks
• Collect insurance information and process orders while using overlay tools
• Operate phone switchboard and maintain excellent customer service
• Develop training materials and programs for new hires in patient access
• Create staff schedules for the department and coordinate with leadership
• Handle on-call duties and after-hours coverage as needed
• Explain consent forms and distribute patient education materials
• Review insurance eligibility responses and support POS and billing processes
• Assist with ABN software to inform Medicare patients of potential non-payment
