Mondelez International seeks an experienced Sr. Patent Counsel to lead intellectual property efforts from East Hanover, NJ or Chicago, IL, combining in-house leadership with external counsel coordination in a hybrid work setup.

The role emphasizes strategic IP guidance, invention harvesting, and design protection across a global portfolio of iconic brands, with a focus on collaboration with R&D, marketing and business units.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Active member in good standing of at least one US state bar.
• Minimum 4 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Minimum 2 years in-house patent counsel experience.
• Experience managing U.S. patent prosecution from disclosure to grant.
• Experience with international design patent applications.

Responsibilities

• Draft, file, and prosecute US patent applications across core snack tech areas.
• Coordinate global patent prosecution with foreign counsel (EP, CN, IN, BR, MX, JP).
• Develop patent filing strategies aligned with innovation priorities and brand initiatives.
• Manage global patent portfolio and conduct maintenance decisions.
• Provide invention harvesting sessions and partner with R&D and marketing teams.
• Support IP due diligence for M&A, licensing, and partnerships.
