Job summary

American Electric Power seeks Engineers at multiple grades to lead protection and control work on 4kV–765kV substations. You will design, review, and implement P&C settings, perform fault studies, and ensure regulatory compliance, working with peers, contractors, and regulators.

The role supports advancement from Engineer Assc to Sr, with salary bands and benefits. Tulsa and Corpus Christi locations, on-site roles with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred for future licensing as a PE.
• PE license encouraged for higher level positions.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review relay protection and control activities for 4kV through 765kV substations.
• Prepare and review P&C scopes for substation projects.
• Review P&C engineering settings and designs for substations.
• Prepare and review relay setting calculations and files for substation projects.
• Conduct area protection studies and recommend settings for transmission systems.
• Model transmission impedances and perform short-circuit fault studies.
• Comply with NERC P&C standards and prepare related documents.
• Coordinate protection issues with customers and interconnected entities.
• Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Peer review P&C work and manage external contractors.
